Client case study: the Allen's new kitchen
From design to supply and installation, a beautiful and stylish new kitchen, bathroom, bedroom or home office is within your reach when you come to Camberley's Park Street Interiors.
Here we sit down with our clients, David and Katherine Allen, to discuss their new kitchen and how Park Street created the design of their dreams:
Please describe your new kitchen
KA: We bought our house in Guildford about 18 months ago with the plan to renovate the dated kitchen. We knocked through the dividing wall, between the dining room and kitchen, and added a full-width single-storey extension so we have a really large and sociable entertaining space which opens out onto the garden. With expansive glass bi-fold doors and skylights – it's light and airy and we wanted to do the space justice with contemporary units and finishes but nothing ultra-modern. The new kitchen is a grey Shaker style – quite timeless. We added luxurious granite worktops, high quality chrome taps and extractor and Miele integrated appliances so the kitchen is appealing as well as functional.
Why did you choose Park Street Interiors for your new kitchen?
DA: We had heard great things about Park Street Interiors from some friends who'd had a new kitchen as well as a bathroom – they said that they couldn't fault their service and we were sold! Park Street's design team really listened during their consultation but also gave guidance where needed – so they helped them make the most of their space and also handled the installation so there was very little upheaval – it was all really smooth and, most importantly, the end result was impressive.
Tell us about the process
DA: We went to Park Street's showroom for a consultation with Scott and he asked what we were hoping to achieve with our new kitchen. Katherine had seen quite a few designs in interior magazines and on Pinterest but we were still open to suggestions. Scott showed us a German-made kitchen in the showroom display which caught our eye and we went from there. We placed our order and the entire process was managed impeccably through to installation. We couldn't fault it!
How have you accessorised your new kitchen units?
KA: We went to Park Street's nearby sister company, Ceramic Tile Warehouse, and chose some fantastic porcelain tiles for the floor – they look like wooden floorboards but are far more durable – which we paired with underfloor heating to make sure the space was really comfortable and cosy during the winter.
We spent a lot of time thinking about the lighting so we now have a variety of options – we've got spotlights on chrome brackets for targeted light whilst cooking and then we opted for a statement pendant light hanging quite low over the island unit for a softer light when entertaining and eating. We love our new kitchen as it's a real reflection of our lifestyle – we spend more time in this space than any other room within our home and it really is the heart!
